The Line
Privacy Policy
How The Line collects, uses, and protects your information. The Line is a peer-support service from Gold Line Support™ for public-safety telecommunicators and dispatchers.
Effective date: June 19, 2026. This policy applies to The Line mobile app and the peer-support pages at this website, both operated by Gold Line Support™ (“we,” “us”).
The short version
- You can use The Line to reach a peer without creating an account or giving your name.
- We collect only what’s needed to connect you with a trained peer and to keep the service safe.
- We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
- You can delete your account and your data at any time from inside the app (Account → Delete account) or by contacting us.
- The Line is peer support — not a medical, clinical, or emergency service. In an emergency, call 911; for crisis support, call or text 988.
Information we collect
| Category | What it includes | When |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Email address, a display name, and a password (managed by our authentication provider). Peer supporters, administrators, and registered members have accounts. | Only if you create an account. |
| Anonymous session | A randomly generated session identifier so we can hold your conversation. No name or email is required. | When you reach a peer without an account. |
| Support request details | How urgent your need is, an optional city/state, a 1–5 wellbeing rating, what kind of support you’re looking for, and the messages you send. | When you start a chat or request a callback. |
| Callback & text details | A phone number and preferred time you provide, and whether you consent to receive text messages. | Only if you request a callback or opt in to texts. |
| Check-ins | A mood rating, a stress rating, and optional notes. These are private to you unless you choose to share a check-in with a peer. | When you log a check-in. |
| Push token | A device notification token. | Only if you enable push notifications. |
| Security & technical | Anti-abuse signals (via Cloudflare Turnstile) and standard service logs used to operate and protect the service. | Automatically, to keep the service secure. |
We do not intentionally collect precise location, contacts, photos, or device identifiers for tracking, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
How we use your information
- To connect you with a trained peer supporter and hold your conversation.
- To coordinate a callback or text message that you ask for.
- To let a designated moderator review a conversation that is flagged for safety.
- To send notifications you opt into (push, and email/SMS where applicable).
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
Who can see your information
Your support requests and messages are visible to trained peer supporters and administrators of The Line, and a designated moderator may review conversations flagged for safety. Check-ins are private to you unless you share them. We never sell your information or share it for advertising.
Service providers
We use a small number of vendors who process data only to provide The Line on our behalf:
- Supabase — secure database, authentication, and hosting.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — bot and abuse protection at sign-in.
- OpenPhone (Quo) — text-message delivery, used only if you opt in to texts.
- Expo — push-notification delivery, used only if you enable push.
- Resend — email notifications to our team.
How long we keep your information
Google Play requires us to state our retention practices, and you deserve to know them anyway. Different information is kept for different lengths of time.
| What | How long we keep it |
|---|---|
| Peer support conversations | Deleted 30 days after the conversation is closed. If a follow-up has been scheduled, the conversation is kept until that follow-up is complete, then deleted on the same 30-day basis. |
| Your check-ins | Kept for as long as your account exists, so you can see your own history over time. Deleted when you delete your account. |
| Activity and sleep from your phone or watch | Kept while your account exists and you remain connected. Disconnecting stops any further data being read. Deleted when you delete your account. |
| Financial and wellness conversations | Kept while your account exists, so you and the advisor or coach can pick up where you left off. Deleted when you delete your account. |
| De-identified records of support given | Kept permanently. We keep a record that each conversation happened, who handled it and how it ended, with nothing that identifies the person who reached out. This is how Gold Line Support reports on its work and reviews how support was given. |
| Reports of objectionable content | Kept permanently, so patterns of abuse can be identified over time. |
| Records of emergency disclosures | Kept permanently. Where a peer supporter reveals someone’s identity because of a risk to life, that decision is recorded with the reason and the time, and administrators review it. |
Health and fitness data
If you choose to connect it, The Line reads a small amount of health data from your phone or watch — through Health Connect on Android or Apple Health on iOS.
We read three things and nothing else: steps and daily activity, workouts, and sleep. These are shown alongside your own check-ins so you can see how your sleep and activity relate to your mood and stress over time — a connection that neither the check-in nor the device data shows on its own.
Connecting is entirely optional and the rest of the app works fully without it. You can disconnect at any time from Me → Health data, and we stop reading immediately.
Your health data is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared with your employer or your agency. If you separately choose to share activity and sleep with a wellness coach, that is a distinct choice you make on purpose and can withdraw at any time. A coach never sees your check-ins or any peer support conversation.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from within the app under Me → Delete my account, or by emailing us at the address below.
Deleting removes your name, email, and anything else that identifies you. Your check-ins, health data, and settings are deleted. The de-identified records described above remain, because they contain nothing that identifies you. This cannot be undone.
Security
Information is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information. The Line is not a HIPAA-covered service and should not be used to share information you need handled under HIPAA.
Not an emergency service
The Line provides peer support and is not a substitute for professional, medical, or emergency care. If you are in danger, call 911. For free, confidential crisis support, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).
Children
The Line is intended for public-safety professionals and other adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
- Use the service anonymously, without an account.
- Opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP.
- Turn push notifications on or off on your device.
- Delete your account and data from inside the app, or by contacting us.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or on this page.
