5K
3.1 miles. One walk. That’s it.
First Voice · October 2026
A 13-day virtual run for the people who answer when it’s darkest. Walk it, run it, roll it. Pick your distance — 5K, 9-1-1, half, or full. October 19 through 31.
The challenge
The calls come at 2 a.m. They come the night before a holiday, in the middle of a storm, on the shift nobody wanted. Every one of them is answered by somebody sitting in a dark room with a headset on.
This October, we’re getting those people outside.
There’s no start line, no finish chute, and no pace requirement. Walk after shift. Run at sunrise. Treadmill at 3 a.m. before you clock in. Log your miles between October 19 and October 31 and finish on Halloween.
Pick your distance
3.1 miles. One walk. That’s it.
9.11 miles — for the number we answer. Nobody else runs this distance.
13.1 miles across 13 days.
26.2 miles. About two miles a day.
Your distance is a goal, not a contract. Badges follow your actual miles — start at the 5K, end up at 13.1, and you’ll get the half badge. Go as far as you go.

If you are in danger, call 911. For free, confidential crisis support, call or text 988.
