The Line
Terms of Service
The rules for using The Line, the peer-support app and website from Gold Line Support™ for public-safety telecommunicators and dispatchers.
Effective date: June 20, 2026. These Terms govern your use of The Line mobile app and the peer-support pages on this website, both operated by Gold Line Support™ (“Gold Line Support,” “we,” “us,” “our”). By using The Line, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use The Line.
1. Who can use The Line
The Line is intended for public-safety telecommunicators, dispatchers, and related personnel, and for the peer supporters who volunteer through Gold Line Support. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or request peer support. By using The Line you represent that the information you provide is accurate and that you are using the service for its intended purpose.
2. What The Line provides
The Line lets you reach a trained peer supporter by chat or callback, and offers self-guided wellbeing tools such as daily check-ins, grounding exercises, and information about Gold Line Support programs and events. You can use the help-seeker features anonymously, without an account. Peer supporters and coordinators use accounts to receive and respond to requests.
3. Peer support, not professional advice
Peer supporters are people with relevant lived experience, not necessarily licensed counselors, clinicians, or medical professionals. Anything shared through The Line is peer support and general information only. It is not professional, medical, legal, or clinical advice, and no provider-patient or similar professional relationship is created. Always seek the advice of a qualified professional for medical or mental-health concerns.
4. Your account and security
If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission. You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Account & privacy → Delete my account), which removes your account and associated data as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
When using The Line, you agree not to:
- use the service to harass, threaten, abuse, or harm any person;
- impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation;
- post or transmit unlawful, infringing, or knowingly false content;
- attempt to access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorized to access;
- interfere with, disrupt, or place undue load on the service; or
- use the service in any way that violates applicable law.
We may suspend or remove access that violates these Terms or that we reasonably believe poses a risk to people or to the service.
6. Content you share
You retain ownership of the messages and information you submit. You grant Gold Line Support a limited license to use that content as needed to operate the service — for example, to deliver your messages to a peer supporter and to maintain records consistent with our Privacy Policy. Do not share information you are not permitted to share, and avoid sharing sensitive details about third parties.
7. For peer supporters
If you volunteer as a peer supporter, you agree to handle requests with care and confidentiality, to act within the scope of peer support, to follow Gold Line Support’s guidance and any applicable training, and to escalate situations involving imminent risk of harm through the appropriate channels. Peer supporters are not acting as licensed professionals when providing peer support through The Line.
8. Privacy
Your use of The Line is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
9. Disclaimers
The Line is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any peer supporter will be available at a given time. You use The Line at your own discretion and risk.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gold Line Support and its volunteers, directors, and staff will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of your use of (or inability to use) The Line. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
11. Changes to the service or these Terms
We may update, suspend, or discontinue features of The Line, and we may revise these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the service. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
12. Termination
You may stop using The Line at any time and may delete your account from within the app. We may suspend or end access where necessary to protect people or the service, or where required by law.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
